The College of Education is aiming to be designated once again as a center of excellence (COE) in teacher education, nutrition and dietetics and library science.
Such desire, for example, was manifested by College officials when members of the Technical Committee in Teacher Education of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) visited the College last Dec. 4.
The CHEd visiting team was composed of Technical Panel members Dr. Felicitas E. Pado, Ms. Alice A. Pañares, and Dr. Jessie O. Abril, and staff Ms. Leana DS. Patungan of CHEd’s Office for Programs and Standards Development.
The College of Education – Teacher Education Department was first granted the COE status in 2008.
Prior to the CHEd visit, the College attended a CHED-sponsored verification session for Teacher Education at the Century Park Hotel. Dean Allan de Guzman, Asst. Prof. Ana Ruby Paez, and Ms. Marichou Beltran presented the thrust and strategic directions of the Teacher Education Program to Pañares and Pado.
The College’s Nutrition and Dietetics Department, for its part, was also called for a validation conference in relation to the program’s COE application last September 18. The Technical Committee on Nutrition and Dietetics, headed by Ma. Theresa Talavera and with Virgith Buena and Mrs. Adela Jamorabo-Ruiz as members, listened to the presentations of the ND Department.
CHEd’s Technical Committee for Library and Information Science visited the College last September 8 in relation to the program’s COE application. The Technical Committee is headed by Elizabeth Peralejo, with Yolanda Granda and Corazon Nera, as members.
The Commission is set to announce the chosen centers of excellence and development in the various disciplines in January 2016.
